Coach's Corner
Hello everyone!!
Swimming can cause injuries and conditioning can help reduce that. Swimming is obviously the best way to get in shape for swimming, but if you can’t join a team then you can do other things to help. Here are some exercises that we would normally do that you can do on your own. It also always helps to do things in groups, so it might help to have some friends on the team that you can do them with.
Run- any distance is good, but the more the better! You can also run stairs
Lunges- you can also do side lunges, or hold weights while you do it
Calf raises
Step ups
Stream line jumps
Shoulder circles- go both ways
Shoulder raises- just raise your arms up and down, add weight if you want more of a workout
Shoulder circles with tennis balls- hold a tennis ball and roll it in circles against a wall for 30 sec
Situps- front and side
Pikeups
Supermans- move your arms and legs up and down for added exercise
Planks-hold yourself up on your forearms and feet
I just wanted to remind everyone of a few things before the season started.
The first practice is Wednesday August 11th from 8-10. This practice is for EVERYONE, both A team and B team. We will not be swimming this day. We will just be going over practice times, goals, rules, and other things. We will start Thursday with swimming and dryland and be separated by A and B team.
I have posted the A and B team. If you are not on this list please contact me ASAP so I can tell you where to go. I have left a few spots open on the A team. These spots will be filled hopefully by the end of the first couple of weeks. I have not seen a lot of you swim since last season so I will not know for sure who fits where until I see you swim or train.
The pay to play this year has increased from $200 to $300. Make sure you get this turned in to me or during your registration. You MUST have a physical if you want to practice on Thursday. If you do not have one then you will not be able to swim. This will count as an unexcused absence!!
Make sure you are thinking about your goals now. I have already spent a lot of time thinking about what I expect out of each of you and I hope you have done the same. At some point during the first couple weeks of practice, I would like to talk to as many of you as I can about your goals and what you want to do in order to achieve them.
Enjoy your last week of freedom and I will see you all on Wednesday!!
Brian
